Day 17: Intro to Adplexity and Spying

In the previous lesson, you've decided on a vertical, and a language to target (this can be for one geo, or for multiple geos that speak the same language). And if sweeps is what you've decided to run, then you've already decided on a sweepstakes prize as well.

Below, we'll download some landers from Adplexity Mobile.

If you don't have Adplexity, then you'll need to do some browsing manually, or "in the wild", as I've mentioned in a previous lesson - basically setting your VPN to the target geo, then keep going to different sites and clicking around to trigger pop ads that are landing pages (vs. other pop ads that are offer pages - when affiliates are direct-linking; and some are not even run by affiliates), and download them either by right-clicking and selecting "Save as" or by using a software like HTTRACK.

@twinaxe's guide on how to spy manually is a must-read: https://stmforum.com/forum/showthrea...-Manual-Spying

If you're looking for sweeps landers that are in a specific language and for a specific prize - it would take forever to come across the right ones. Plus you won't know which landers are the most popular - which Adplexity will tell you.

For these reasons, I would HIGHLY recommend getting a subscription to Adplexity Mobile - I've included links to discount pages in the previous lesson.

Enough talk - let's take some ACTION!

    **************************************************

    ACTION

1)Log into Adplexity Mobile. Set some of the filters in the left menu:

"Filter" - This is the date filter. Set it to "Last 7 days" to only see landers that were detected to be running during the last 7 days. (Note: If you feel that you're not seeing enough landers, you can expand to "Last 30 days" - landers don't get saturated/fatigued this quickly.)

"Days Running" - Set to 7 days to infinity.

"Ad Type" - Click "Choose More" to choose more than one option, then checkmark "Popup" and "Redirects" ("Redirects" are a similar traffic type to pop, and the same/similar landers are used).

"Device Type" - Leave at default (no restrictions).

"Size" - Leave at default - no need to select banner size because we're not looking for banners.

"Country" and "Language" filters - Use these to specify the geo(s) and language you're wanting to find landers for. In most cases, specifying one of the two filters would suffice, but you can also specify both filters.

"Connection" - Leave at default (no restrictions).

"Traffic source" - You can either leave this at default (no restrictions), or select the traffic source you're planning on running the campaign at. The latter approach will restrict the number of landers you will see, but the advantage here is that you'll see landers that are more likely to be compliant for that particular traffic source.

"Affiliate network" - Leave at default (no restrictions).

"Tracking Tool" - Click on "Choose More" > click on "Select all" > uncheck "None".

2)Next, set some of the filters at the top of the screen:

Make sure "BY KEYWORD" is selected.

Leave "Keyword" dropdown set to "on the landing page", and enter the prize of the sweepstakes offers you've chosen to run - e.g. "iphone 12" - in the empty field. Set the filter at the top right to "Received most traffic".

3)Now we're ready to choose some landers. Basically pick ones that look different from each other as much as possible.

Pick around 10 to start. Just click on each one you want to pick and Adplexity will open it up in a new tab.

In each new tab, go to the "Landing Pages" section at the top > "Offer & Tracking" column, and click on the "Show More" button for any entry.

This will bring up a "Landing Page Details" window. Scroll to the bottom and click on "DOWNLOAD THIS LANDING PAGE".

Do this until you have around 10 different-looking landers. Be sure to include variations of each lander STYLE. Take sweeps landers for example, the major styles are: Survey (asking the visitors a series of multiple-choice questions), spinning prize wheel, slot machine, gift boxes, and pick a prize (from multiple gift boxes or treasure chests etc.)

    **************************************************

    EXPLANATION

-Note that the approach we're using here, is to include a wide variety of landers in our testing, so that chances are we'll capture at least a couple of decent landers. Therefore, I haven't specified a lot of restrictions in the filtering options. The downside of that approach is that it would take more money to test more landers.

The alternative approach would be to be very selective in your choice of landers - for example choose a couple of landers that you feel would stand the best chances of converting well, and just test those. The latter approach would be less expensive, but your chances of ending up with a well-converting lander would be smaller. The choice would be up to you to make when you have more experience.

Note: If you want to only test a couple of landers at the start, be sure to include at least one of every major lander style for the type of offer you're running. (e.g. The three sweeps lander styles listed above.)

Note: Also I've advised for you to download around 10 landers, not all those will make it to the actual testing. When it comes time for you to "fix up" the coding on the landers, you may find that some are more difficult to fix than others - and having more landers downloaded means you can just skip the difficult ones. If you're an experienced coder, by all means just download 3-5 (which is the number of landers we'll actually be testing).

-We could have done a search for just "iphone" to get even more landers. Since iphone 12 offers are relatively new at the time of writing, there aren't as many landers available, and searching for just "iphone" would include more results. We could download landers for other versions of iphone, and just change the lander text and images to customize them for iphone 12.

-We don't need to stick to iphone landers - landers that are used to promote other sweeps offers, such as other electronics (PS4, iPads, Samsung phones...) or gift cards, can be customized for other prizes as well. That will, however, require more coding experience, time, and effort.

-Taking that one step further: An advanced tactic would be to browse landers in other verticals - e.g. gambling, antivirus, even adult - and customize them for use with sweeps offers.

-Another popular tactic is to search for landers used in tier 1 geo campaigns, and used them in the lower-tier geos (it may be necessary to get translations). This is a good technique because tier 1 geos tend to be more competitive and has higher profits potential, and therefore advertisers tend to spend more time on innovating to come up with new lander designs and angles, as compared to when dealing with lower-tier geos.

-For "Language", you can specify multiple languages if your target country speaks multiple languages. You could set up tracker rules to detect the language of the visitor's device/browser, and redirect them to landers in the respective language. This is a good way to increase ROI.

-If, when you specify both "Country" and "Language", you're not seeing a lot of landers for your type of offers, try to just specify the language without filtering by country - that way you'll see landers for all countries that speak that language.

    READING

Adplexity is an awesome tool with lots of very useful features. My simple lander-ripping method above is a good start, but there is so much more value you can get out of the tool. If you become a master at analyzing all the intel that the tool provides, to identify the most promising creatives and offers and targeting, you can save a tremendous amount of time and money on testing, to get the most bang for your buck.

Most people will not explore Adplexity beyond the simple method above - so if you do put in the time to learn to harness the power of this tool, you will have an edge over your competition - and knowing how competitive pop traffic has become, you WILL need every edge you can get your hands on.

I've put together a list of resources that will enable you to understand Adplexity better. It's not mandatory to read them all today, but definitely do go through them at some point.

Well that was a nice and easy lesson wasn't it? Be prepared to kill some brain cells in the next couple of lessons if you're not a coder - we'll be fixing up the code in the landers we've downloaded today.
